SHANE WATCHA

Biography (updated 1st September 2005)

From spinning Acid House to a small club in South Africa aged 20, to playing alongside house music's greatest legends at London 's best clubs. A regular in Europe from Paris to Moscow, Shane's lust for house music has seen him not only slug his record bags around Europe but more recently completing an independent world DJ tour of 12 countries last stop being the annual WMC in Miami. The last 10 years of Shane career has been one roller coaster that has taken him on a worldwide adventure that has seen him as resident DJ in Dennis Rodman's Los Angeles club to resident at a regular Hollywood haunt DJing to the likes of Paris Hilton, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.

Since humble beginnings in his home town of Durban, Shane has gone on to be a regular at London's most prestigious venues including The End, Pacha London and Ministry of Sound as well as hosting the “Filthy” party at London's Notting Hill Carnival and playing alongside some of dance music's biggest names plus having the honour of DJing at Glastonbury music Festival in 2004.

Ask Shane today and he will say that being a regular feature on the Global Club Circuit is his greatest achievement to date. Getting to play the music he loves on a world stage, “Filthy electronic house music!” The quality of Shane's sets have seen him playing alongside DJ's like Frankie Knuckles, Todd Terry, Marshall Jefferson, Norman Jay, Sandy Rivera and Boy George
to present day heroes like MYLO, Miguel Migs, Jay J, Groove Armada's Andy Cato, Stonebridge, Junior Jack & Kid Crème.

From his base in London he's within striking distance for guest appearances in Europe . Also promoting and headlining FILTHY tours across South Africa , Singapore , Thailand , Indonesia , Australia , New Zealand & the USA . While holding down his monthly residency for his own night the “FILTHYHOUSESSIONS”, a club night TIME OUT magazine named one of the “must visit” nights in London .

Rewind a bit. The story starts in 1992 when Shane decides to leave South Africa for London inspired by the wave of dance music emerging in the late 80's and embrace the music that has he been listening to. He then starts up his own club night, which enjoys a devoted following, and quickly came to the attention of London's top clubs and acted as the ideal platform for him to carve a reputation that would lead him onto the international stage. Soon Shane turned his attention oversees. His sense of wanderlust first saw him making forays to Moscow, then mainland Europe, the Far East (Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia) then Australia and New Zealand plus USA where Shane spent a great deal of time on the club circuit. Indeed just as he can boast playing the finest clubs in the UK , he can also lay claim to having spun at some of the best clubs the world has to offer too.

It's this unique global experience that became the catalyst for him being asked to present his own weekly radio show and also guesting a dozen other stations around the world. Being inspired by the tribal sounds of Danny Tenaglia and intensity of Laurent Garnier's sets… to the delicate style of Masters of Work, David Morales and Roger Sanchez, Shane created his own blend of tribal “Filthy” bass coupled with up-tempo rhythms that have captured dance floors. Always versatile and focused on the party his electro sets have a tougher edge while his lighter side has seen him take accapellas sampled over uplifting filthy beats!

He is a firm believer in the concept of the global dance floor, so come Saturday night, you're just as likely to find him popping up in Europe , USA , and Asia as you are in London . All in all, not a bad result for someone who started DJing at 20 in that tiny club in South Africa .
